Washington, D.C., June 1943. Dr. Philip S. Smith, Chief Alaskan geologist, and Miss Hallman, engineering aid, employees of the U.S. Geological survey, Alaska branch, using an oblique sketch master. The instrument transfers the planimetry from the oblique photograph to the base manuscript used on air navigation charts.

Green, Cecil Howard

Cecil Howard Green (August 6, 1900 – April 11, 2003) was a British-born American geophysicist and founder of Texas Instruments.

Career

In 1930, Cecil accepted a job from Eugene McDermott as chief of a seismographic field crew for the newly organized GSI. In 1941, Mr. Green and three partners – J. Erik Jonsson, Eugene McDermott and H.B. Peacock – bought GSI when they heard that the owners planned to sell the oil production unit. In 1951, the company's name was changed to Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), and GSI became a wholly owned subsidiary of TI.

Mr. Green served as vice president (1941-1951), president (1951-1955) and chairman of GSI (1955-1959). He also served as vice president and director of Texas Instruments and in 1976 was named honorary director of the company.

Domangue, Bryan

Bryan Domangue is Houma District Manager, Minerals Management Service (MMS) Gulf of Mexico Region. Domangue will supervise a staff of 21, including 11 Field Inspectors who conducted nearly 1300 inspections in 2007.

Bryan has been with MMS for 11 years. As a petroleum engineer, he has served as both
Field Engineer and Production Engineer for the Houma District.

Carter, Melvan D

Melvan D (Mel) Carter was President of Velocity Analysts, specializing in depth conversion and velocity data base analysis.

Career

Mel joined Geophysical Services, Inc. in 1961, working in various capacities, including data collection, digital processing, and interpretation of seismic data. From 1966-74, he provided technical support for field and processing crews in the United States, London and Saudi Arabia. He was one of the founders of Energy Analysts and served as President until 1987, doing worldwide consulting work using well and seismic velocities for depth conversion and lithological analysis. After a merger in 1987 with Landmark Graphics Corporation, he continued his velocity studies for until 1992. He has authored and presented numerous papers on velocity and depth conversion.

Background

Received a B.S. and M.A. degree in Mathematics from the University of Oklahoma in 1958 and 1959 respectively. Served in the United States Marine Corps.

Worzel, J Lamar

J. Lamar Worzel (born 1919), American geophysicist, is a graduate of Lehigh University where he met Dr. Maurice Ewing with whom he had a forty-year working relationship.

Worzel had a long and notable career as a research scientist and professor of oceanography at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution before following Ewing to Columbia University. He conducted annual research on many ships, including the Vema, which set the stage for the rapid advances in marine geology and geophysics in the late 1940s and 1950s.

Morgan, William Jason

William Jason Morgan (born October 10, 1935 in Savannah, Georgia) is an American geophysicist who has made seminal contributions to the theory of plate tectonics and geodynamics.

He is Knox Taylor Professor emeritus of geology and professor of geosciences at Princeton University.

Ewing, Maurice

William Maurice "Doc" Ewing (May 12, 1906 – May 4, 1974) was an American geophysicist and oceanographer.

Ewing has been described as a pioneering geophysicist who worked on the research of seismic reflection and refraction in ocean basins, ocean bottom photography, submarine sound transmission, deep sea coring of the ocean bottom, theory and observation of earthquake surface waves, fluidity of the earth's core, generation and propagation of microseisms, submarine explosion seismology, marine gravity surveys, bathymetry and sedimentation, natural radio-activity of ocean waters and sediments, study of abyssal plains and submarine canyons.
